Give Up Your Need To Control

There is a difference between taking charge and needing to control. Taking charge can lead to micro managing which in turn may kill the spirit , drown initiative and misplace responsibility. Control issues are another matter all together. Many times control is masked as perfectionism; demanding higher standards, doing things well, getting it right.

At an elementary level high standards and doing things well are acceptable especially when there is, attentiveness and respect for other. It is when the controlling behaviors make us captive to our own specific sense of order that events become unhealthy. Rooted in controlling behaviors are esteem issues, fear of failure both real and imaginary and at times massive ego needs.

By extension those who would control need to recognize Neal Maxwell’s insights.
‘It is too easy to be confrontational without being informative
to be indignant without being intelligent
to be impulsive without being insightful’

“In goal setting whether big or small, fitness related or otherwise…the control centre of your life is YOUR ATTITUDE. If you do not control what you think …you cannot control what you do.” Napoleon Hill

“Prudent , cautious SELF CONTROL is wisdom’s root.” Robert Burns
