Fat Burning Effects Of Fish Oil

Did you know that fish oil also helps you to lose fat?

For years, doctors and scientists have been recommending fish, which contains the omega 3 fatty acids docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic (EPA), as a way to reduce blood pressure and protect the heart.

But in recent study at the University of Western Ontario, Berardi and colleagues found that fish oil also boosts metabolism by speeding up the calorie burning mechanism in the mitochondria.

There are many reasons to supplement with fish oil like reducing your risk of certain cancers, reducing inflammation in joints and strengthen the heart.

The 2 reasons that most people will actually start using it though hit another nerve closer to the surface. Fish oil not only improves the look and feel of hair and skin but now you know it helps you burn fat too.

If you haven't started supplementing with fish oil yet there is no better time as we are selling the Vitality Brand Omega 3 Advanced in the studio for Only $10 (reg $15) until May 1st.

Big JAK

I am so very proud of one of Vitality's faithful Jak Kennedy. This kid started here 3 years ago at the tender age of 12 looking to improve his skiing.

Although at that age we could not do a lot of heavy lifting we were able to make him strong by utilizing a lot of body weight movements, teaching proper form for future heavy lifts and develop core strength, balance and stamina.
Now that he is a little older and pretty much one of the biggest kid's I know. I think he is about 6'2" (6'5" if you add his hair). He squats almost 200 pounds now with perfect form and his knees are as strong as ever.

He gets dragged in here twice a week at 6:45 am and believe me I don't show any mercy because it is early.

His dedication and consistency has lead to success as he is now currently ranked #1 in Ontario and hopefully by the end of the month we'll see him as the new #1 skier in Canada at his age.

Congratulations to Big Jak!!!

Iron Man

I just got back from walking Starky Hill here in Guelph with my girlfriend Sheri and Georgia, my dog.

To make the walk a little more adventurous we decided to leave at Dusk and I wore a 40 lb weighted vest.

Now I gotta tell you that at first I thought it was going to be no problem but by the end my back was killing me. I could not believe the added stress there was on my mid and low back. Made me wonder about all those people who carry around a 40 lb weighted vest all the time.

By the time I got back to the car and took the vest off I can honestly say that I felt like I was floating off my car seat.

All in all I would say that I wouldn't do it again though. Although it was more difficult it did not really elevate my heart rate that much and just worked my back muscles in a sort of light anaerobic muscular endurance fashion. I’ll be better off just walking it for stress relief and pure enjoyment and save my ‘cardio’ for something a little more.

I fell quite a bit.

Not sure if I should blame the vest, my big boots, the ice or the hill itself but I must have fell down 10 times.

Georgia tried to help me up a few times but I think she just made standing up more difficult. She loved it as usual and with her reddish coat looked a lot like Bambi bouncing around all over the woods.

Near the end Sheri and I were both glad to see the car. My back was sore, it was really dark and after a good 75 minutes up and down the icy hills we had had enough.

Felt good to get out in the woods though. Different sort of cardio and very peaceful. Reminded me a lot of my childhood where I spent the majority of my time walking up and down the hills to go sliding. I did not play a lot of organized winter sports but I did ski, snowboard and GT every chance I got.

So take advantage of all the mild winter weather and get out there for your exercise trying something different. Maybe it's snow shoeing or just walking your favorite trail. You'll be surprised how different everything looks with no leaves and a white coat.

Years ago it was thought that flax seed oil was superior and it was. Tests found it was common for fish oil supplements to be rancid, and contain toxins such as PCBs, mercury, and other toxic compounds.

However, the quality of fish oil supplements across the spectrum of products has improved greatly in the past few years with the use of processing techniques such molecular distillation and others, which produces very high quality fish oil products standardized for their “active” lipid content.

The above concerns and reservations for fish oil supplements are no more, which is a good thing, considering how useful and healthy these products are. Thus, my diet favour's more fish oil and less flax.

Flax is still a great healthy source of fat calories, and can still be part of the diet, but does not need to be the sole source of Omega-3 fatty acids in the diet.
